Do you wake up each morning with the knowledge that you are about to use the day to do something you love, or not? In the evening, do you go to bed feeling fulfilled and satisfied that you spent the day doing work that was meaningful to you, and you utilized your own talents and passion, or not?
If not, you’re not alone, according to an international Gallup poll, less than 20% of respondents strongly agreed that they enjoyed what they did each day. To investigate the impact of this phenomenon, Gallup researchers studied the health and well being of a group of 168 people through the course of a normal workday. As you might have expected, those who reported feeling being focused and engaged with their work had higher levels of happiness and less stress than those who reported feeling disengaged.
In my last article we discussed the positive health and wellness benefits of routinely doing something each day, whatever that might be, outside of work, where you have fun and thoroughly enjoy it. Today, we’ll look at how to find that same fun and joy in your work or your career, or other activities, for the sake of strengthening your health and well being. Are you wondering how to do that?
The truth is, if you haven’t already found it, you do have a path and a specific purpose for being here on this earth. In the same vain, you have a quest, something you are seeking, and innate strengths or abilities that are your own. As you journey through life, you may find yourself drawn to certain activities and things you feel called to do along the way, or if you’re lucky, you may have found it at an early age. You begin to resonate with a specialty or calling, and therein lies the keys to identifying your gifts and talents.
Talent, or aptitude, as described by Wikipedia, is, “an aptitude is a component of a competence to do certain kind of work, or skills, at a certain level. Outstanding aptitude can be considered “talent”. An aptitude may be physical or mental. apitude is inborn potential to do certain kind of work, whether developed or undeveloped. Ability is developed knowledge, understanding, learned, or acquired abilities (skills) or attitude. The innate nature of aptitude is in contrast to skills and achievement, which represents knowledge, or ability that is gained through learning. Read more on talent or aptitude from Wikipedia here.
Where Are Those Gifts and Talents
It’s possible, you may also struggle to recognize the special qualities and talents you carry within as being of any real importance. It may not always be obvious to you that the things you have a natural flair for, may very well be the thing you’re meant to do in your life. Your limiting beliefs may be affecting your sense of self-worth. You’ve been guided by society to focus more on your weaknesses than your strengths, so it’s not uncommon for you to have very little sense of what those strengths are. But, take my word for it, those unique gifts and talents are there, somewhere deep-down inside of you!
Whether it’s through writing, communicating, painting, playing music, dancing, or experiencing life, your uniqueness is what adds color, texture, flavor, and emotion to the lives of everyone around you. Eckhart Tolle has a great quote: “You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are!” You carry within you certain qualities and attributes that contribute to society. So you see, it turns out you do matter. Your life does matter. Everything you do has an impact, and you leave your mark, while having fun doing it.
Discovering those Gifts and Talents
There are a few ideas you might try that could assist you in discovering your unique gifts and talents that will bring fun and enjoyment into your life, and enhancing your health and well being, that is, if you haven’t been fortunate enough to have previously found them.
What turned you on as a child? What did you enjoy doing the most? How would you pass the days and what types of activities were exciting to you?
What still turns you on as an adult? What lights you up and gets you totally motivated? What kind of things do you enjoy zoning-out on? When you lose total track of time, you’re so engrossed, what are you doing?
What in your life is truly important? When you think about the different areas of your life, such as health, career, family, relationship, personal development, spirituality or religion, or fun, make a list of all the things that are important to you in each of these categories. This will give you a list of your values seperated by categories Combined, they represent your life values, and what is important to you about life in general. Knowing your values helps direct you toward things that are important to you at the unconscious level and can lead you to finding your passion and purpose.
What does your family and closest friends say about your gifts? Think of the five people you spend the most time with and identify one or two things that those people are gifted at. You should be able to come up with at least one talent or gift each person has or does that is unique to them. Likewise, the people who know you well or whom you spend the most time with will easily be able to share with you the qualities they see as being your strengths. So just ask around and you might get your answer.
What about a professional assessment. Another option is to take the web-based “Strengths Finders Assessment” interview, which analyzes your instinctive reactions and will then present you with your signature attributes. Some categories are Achiever, Activator, Communication, Competition, Restorative, and Strategic. Once you know what your primary themes are, you can begin to leverage them for your own development and for making a positive impact in the world.
Applying Your Unique Gifts and Talents
Utilizing your gifts and talents. Here is a Ben Franklin quote I love, “Hide not your talents, they for use were made, what’s a sundial worth in the shade.” We each possess hundreds of skills, and nearly all of us, also have some natural gifts which are more than just talents; they are what makes you feel fulfilled and happy. Having a sense of humor, or an ability to bring joy to others, an ability to quickly compute numbers, or an appetite for leading others, are examples of natural gifts that can express your purpose.
Once you’ve identified your special talents, it’s time to put them to work, by exploring ways of building your life around them, and bringing you fun and enjoyment, you and others deserve. You can do this by discovering what it is you’re good at, and getting creative with how you can use your talents to serve yourself and others. But, what does that actually mean? How can you tap the energy of your greatness, and use it to make a positive and healthy impact on both the planet and humanity alike?

Helping others. Your calling can be thought of as the urge to share your gifts with the world. Your gifts or talents are also considered your strengths. Research has determined that individuals who use their strengths and talents, which, sometimes that comes naturally, or can be enhanced through practice, every day are six times more likely to be engaged on their job or career, or other meaningful activities. When you express your gifts for the sake of others, you often experience the joy of being fully alive and appreciated. Our gifts or talents are purposely created not just for ourselves but to help those around us. We benefit from other people’s talents. We benefit from Jobs’ Apple creations, Edison’s light bulb, Ford’s automotive ideas or our mom’s cooking.
Almost everyone around us contribute to our welfare in one way or another. Our gifts or talents are ours but they are not just there for us. They are given to be shared with others. Just imagine the world if nobody shared a talent. There’s no sense of delight when we only want to serve ourselves. Sharing our talents with other people can create more lasting fulfillment. It is actually a win-win situation. We get to exercise our talent and other people on the other end receives a benefit from it. We may even change someone’s life just because we exercise our gift. It doesn’t need to be a huge one. Start small and someone out there will be inspired because of it.
Totally in. What were you doing the last time you experienced such absorption that you lost all sense of time? You were probably doing something that relates to your calling. At the end of the day, who you are, what you do, and how you show up in the world is special and unique. Everything you share, whether it’s your bright smile, your compassionate heart, your sharp intellect, or your quality of presence, has a ripple effect on everyone around you and beyond. You see, it turns out you DO matter. You matter in more ways and on more days than you could ever possibly imagine. Whoever you are and whatever you do, the world needs you. When you think big, show up bold and share your uniqueness, you become a role model for all of us.
Enjoying and Having Fun With Your New Found Gifts and Talents
It’s true, employing your unique gifts and talents into your life activities will naturally increase your energy and stamina to healthier levels, but to what extent, is the question? If you’re read any of my previous articles, you will know there is a common theme we always stress about maintaining one’s overall health and well being. What is that theme? Do all the basic healthy things routinely that will give you the added-assurance that you are doing as much as possible to assure you, you are, without a doubt, in optimal health.
What are the basics? Get a minimum 7 hours of restful sleep, moderately exercise daily, doing something everyday you enjoy and makes you laugh, use meditation or some form of relaxation daily, spend time with your family and your pet (pets), read or learn a new skill, spend time in nature, live in a healthy environment, eat the proper well-balanced, nutrition foods, and supplement your diet with the all natural Adaptogen Peruvian Maca. Let’s cover the two most important and basic healthy things you can do.
Eat well-balanced nutritious foods. Proper nutrition is one of the primary things you can do on a daily basis to maintain your overall health and well being. Eat fresh, with emphasis on “fresh”, the fresher the better, balanced, nutritious foods. All the foods you consume should be certified organic, non-GMO (none genetically modified), low in fat, high in fiber, foods. Buying fresh is vital, because foods loose as much as 35% of its nutritional value, if not consumed fresh. Certified-organic and non-GMO foods, are not grown with harmful chemical fertilizers, or additives, and are not sprayed with chemical pesticides, which is much safer for your health. And, that well-balanced, nutritious diet is commonly referred to as the Mediterrean Diet, with the addition of more virgin olive oil and nuts, is the best choice for your overall health and well being. Not only will you help your heart and cardiovascular health, but your overall health and well being.
The Mediterrean Diet consists of eating fresh organic fruits and veggies, and whole grains, with extra virgin olive oil, the main ingredient. The diet includes low-fat dairy, high protein, cold water, or wild-caught fish and seafood, and meats, as long as the meats are lean, organic, grass-fed, or free-range, meats, and eggs, and wine, in moderate amounts. For additional information on these types of lean, high protein meats, and fish, and where to purchase them, read these reviews, “You Can Be Healthy” and “What Is In Maca Root“.
All your whole-grain, fruits and veggies can be bought fresh locally at least nine months out of the year. Find a local organic farmer that sells fresh, organic, GMO free fruits and veggies, and grains, and then buy them there. Remember, grocery store foods are not guaranteed for freshness or do they certify the food is organic, although they may stock a few certified organic fruits and veggies. For more information on fresh, organic, GMO-free, whole-grains, fruits, and vegetables, nuts and seeds, low-fat diary and cheese, refer to the “You Can Be Healthy” article above.
Supplementing with the natural Adaptogen. For added nutritional benefits and assurance to eating fresh nutritious foods, supplement your diet with a natural, organic, non-GMO, healing whole food Adaptogen Peruvian Maca, which will provide you with all the benefits of fresh nutritional whole foods. Adaptogens are a unique class of natural-growing plants (only a few recognized world-wide), that have the ability to assist the human body to “adapt” and naturally function properly, by providing a “normalizing effect”, a balancing effect, to harmful stressors, oxidation, inflammation, and other harmful situations, infections, and diseases.
So, what is in P Maca root that makes it such an incredible natural-healing, or medicinal plant? P Maca is a highly-nutritious whole food organically-grown and cultivated, non-GMO (non-genetically modified), on small family farms in Peru. One ounce (28 grams) of P Maca contains the following nutritious substances: 91 calories, 20 grams of carbs, 4 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber, 1 gram of fat, 133% of RDI vitamin C, 85% RDI copper, 23% RDI iron, 16% RDI potassium, 15% RDI Manganese, vitamins B1, B2, B3, and B6, 19 essential amino acids, trace minerals zinc, selenium, boron, and others, several glucosinolates plant substances, 20 free fatty acids, and two unique plant compounds macaenes and macamides (uniquely only found in Maca). To learn about P Maca history and various forms available for purchase, read this review “What’s Healthy Living“.
If you have already developed your unique gifts or talents and you are using them, I know you feel very fortunate. However, if you haven’t reached that thresh hold, I urge you to use this information supplied in this article to finding those special gifts and talents, because it’s never too late to live life to the fullest in optimal health.
